Apple 'Discovery' is an excellent early variety that produces deliciously sweet apples that can be eaten fresh or used within cooking. This is an easy to grow variety, it's very hardy, successful everywhere and has great disease resistance. A hold of the RHS Award of Garden Merit. This medium sized compact tree will take a few years to crop, but once they do, they will provide fruit for many years and produce wonderful white flowers that attract birds and butterflies from April to May. Planting & Growing Instructions
Apple trees are suitable for planting in most types of moderately fertile, well drained soil, although they do not like acid soil. If possible prepare the ground some time in advance of planting. Open out holes and plant with enough space to accommodate the roots without cramping them. Plant in a sunny location as they do not prosper too well in the shade. Make sure that you plant with a stake, as this will be needed for at least five years to help support the tree. Begin weed control prior to planting and keep a clean ring around the plant (with a radius of approx 24inches).
Cultural Instructions
Young trees must be watered thoroughly and sprinkle with fertilizer each spring. You can also mulch in April with rotted manure or compost around the base of the trunk. They should be planted in well sheltered locations. They will blossom and flower in Spring and fruit is normally ready to be picked throughout Autumn.
